2010年8月12日、チフス菌汚染のため自主回収となった Goya ブランド商品から作られていた (※) マミーサポテ冷凍フルーツ バー mamey frozen fruit bars (2009年5月から California, Arizona, Texas で流通。Fruiti Pops, Inc. 社)を回収する。
So far no illnesses have been reported from the mamey fruit bars.

2010年8月20日現在 ( 9:00 am EDT on 20 Aug 2010 )、
[サルモネラ属] チフス菌 Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi [遺伝子型] 一致株による感染患者( 腸チフス ) 9人。2010年5月25日以降、2州で報告された。
California カリフォルニア州( 5人) および Nevada ネバダ州( 4人)。
9人すべて Hispanic ethnicity ヒスパニック系アメリカ人。
9人中 7人は入院。8人は発症前 60日からの国際旅行はない。2010年8月20日時点で、感染による死亡患者 0人。
7人は milkshake ミルクシェーク または smoothie スムージー ( “batido” or “licuado” )を食べた (材料としてトロピカルフルーツ mamey sapote マミーサポテ [Pouteria sapota オオミアカテツ] の冷凍熱帯果肉 frozen mamey fruit pulp が含まれている)。
このうち 5人は Goya ブランドの frozen mamey fruit pulp を食べた。
1人は La Nuestra ブランドであった。

All lot numbers are affected by this recall, however packages produced prior to May 2009 are not identified with a lot number and are subject to this recall as well.

As a precautionary measure Goya Foods, Inc. has voluntarily recalled the Mamey Pulp product produced by COCO, S.A. of Guatemala. This product is distributed nationwide through retail stores under the Goya label.

A number of clusters [of Salmonella enterica (subspecies enterica) serovar Typhi] have been reported in the USA in the 21st century including:

- New York City: In the summer of 2000, an outbreak of endemic typhoid fever involved 6 people in Queens, NY, and a 7th person in Manhattan, NY (boroughs of New York City). An investigation by the New York City Department of Health traced the likely source to an immigrant employee working at a local restaurant (1).

- Ohio: In August 2000, the Ohio Department of Health reported a cluster of men with typhoid fever who denied having traveled abroad. To determine the cause and the extent of the outbreak, an epidemiological investigation was initiated in which 7 people in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana with culture-confirmed S. Typhi infection and 2 people with probable typhoid fever were evaluated; all were men, and all but one reported having had sex with 1 asymptomatic male carrier (2).

- New York City: 2 cases of S. typhi infections in 2005 were acquired domestically and linked to a chronic carrier Haitian traveler.
