小児 2人が嘔吐を来たし、[インド北西部 Gujarat グジャラート州 Dahod ダーホード県 Limkheda] Chilakota 村の PHC [プライマリ・ヘルス・ケア・ユニット Primary Health Care unit]に受診した。病気の症状であり、さらなる治療のため同県 Limkheda の CHC [地域医療センター Community Health Center]に移送した。翌日、彼らには 発熱、けいれんが見られ、口から泡を吹いて、2人は死亡した(同日)。
患者 2名の血液検体を採取し、Maharashtra マハーラーシュトラ州 Pune プネー の National Institute of Virology (NIV 国立ウイルス研究所)に送った。2人の血液検体は [ラブドウイルス Rhabdoviridae科] Chandipura virus チャンディプラ ウイルス陽性であった。

急性ウイルス性脳炎による死亡患者 17人 (州政府発表 [4 Aug 2010])。
3県だけで全 17人死亡。
Vadodara ヴァドーダラー県(2), Kheda ケーラー県(6), Panchmahal パンチマハル県(9)
一日[3 Aug 2010]だけで、このうち 11人が息を引き取った。

ウイルス感染の媒介として、泥壁の家の中に、たいてい複数の sandfly サシチョウバエ が見つかる、ハエは壁の ひび/亀裂を通って室内に入る[ヒトを刺す]と、州保健相は語った。
