インド西部 マハーラーシュトラ州[州都] Mumbai ムンバイ [近郊を含む都市圏人口 2004万人 2010年 UN統計] 郊外 Saki Naka [Sakinaka]で、4歳の女児が 1匹の犬に咬まれて 1ヶ月後、狂犬病で死亡した。
同市の病院 Nair Hospital に入院したのは ごく最近で、[15 Oct 2010]死亡した (警察発表)。
両親には狂犬病ワクチンを受けさせる金銭的な余裕はなかった。

私立病院では、ワクチン 1回分 約 5.70 米ドル。
(低中階級の家庭出身で、個人経営の農場で働いている) 父親によると、死亡した患児(娘)は 2010年9月、 [家族の住む] 住宅 (場所 Yadav Nagar on Khairani Road )の外で遊んでいたとき、野良犬 1匹に咬まれた。両親が自宅で、けがの手当てを行い、娘に薬を与えた。
2010年10月14日、女児に異常な行動が始まり、”突然、大声を出したり、壁を引っ掻いたりした”と、父親は警察に話した。
According to Dr Sameer Dalwai of the Indian Academy of Paediatrics, “Though we rarely see rabies patients in the city, such incidents show that there is still a need to create awareness about this disease.” …
