[Mod. AS氏解説: 中国国境に隣接したモンゴル国最東部 ドルノド県内(今回と同じ)で発生し、2005年では 血清型 Asia1 であった。]

　血清型 O と血清型 Aの口蹄疫ウイルス FMDV 発生は 1931-1973年の期間は間欠的に起こっていた。

1960年代前半、モンゴル東部ステップ地域 [同国東の大草原] Mongolia’s Eastern Steppe で発生した口蹄疫で数多くのガゼル gazelle が死んだ。
数年間で数回、モンゴルの野生動物での発生も報告されている。

2004年、アンテロープ? 種の特定されていない動物で発生した。
モンゴルには、
　モウコガゼル zeren or white-tailed gazelle (Procapra gutturosa)
　コウジョウセンガゼル black-tailed gazelle (Gazella subgutturosa)
の 2種が多く、南西部では、サイガ Saiga or burhom (Saiga tatarica)が生息している。

モンゴルのラクダは フタコブラクダ Bactrian camel なので、過去に口蹄疫[ウイルス感染]が報告され、実験的にも証明されている。フタコブラクダとは対照的に、中東でよくみられる ヒトコブラクダ dromedary [Arabian camel]は 口蹄疫に耐性とされ、OIE’s International Animal Health Code によると、FMD に感染しやすい動物種のリストから除外されている。
