南アフリカ共和国 [Gauteng ハウテン州 州都] ヨハネスブルグの病院 Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital で、6人の新生児がノロウイルス感染症で死亡した [確認 20 May 2010]。
全患者は、新生児病棟の 未熟児(で生まれた) または、体重 1 Kg [2.2 lb]未満の新生児で、院外に行ったことはない。感染症発生当時、同病棟で約 50人を収容していた — 規定では 最大 35人。15人を超える入院状況だった。
病院 Natalspruit Hospital での新生児 11人の死亡 [11 May 2010] 原因は、敗血症、低体重、未熟児、死産で、Charlotte Maxeke 病院の 6人が死亡した下痢症とは関係がない。
新聞 The Star は、2010年5月9日から 18日の間に Natalspruit 病院で 30人の新生児が死亡したことを明らかにしている。
